Nineveh Plain Iraq

Paws of Liberty

In early 2017, SOLI began working with a new set of trainees, 5 litter mates we adopted in Iraq. They’re named after the original Sons of Liberty of the American Revolution (Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Rush), but they’re far cuter. And they’re on a mission to save innocent men, women, children, and other dogs from being killed by bombs planted by ISIS.

After completing their training this summer, the Paws of Liberty will be deployed on missions to areas where ISIS has planted explosives, and will locate these hidden bombs and landmines before they can maim or kill innocent civilians who in many cases have waited years to return to their homes.

Sons of Liberty International has a longterm program in Iraq. For the next several years the Paws of Liberty K9 team will be saving lives by finding IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices), dangerous UXOs (unexploded ordinance), and landmines in Iraq. The statistics are shocking: from 2011-2014 over 53,000 civilians were killed or wounded by IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). In Iraq alone, over 14,000 people have been killed or wounded by landmines since 1991. The need is great, and these hero dogs are up to the task.

Past Missions

Sons of Liberty International has been working with the Nineveh Plain Forces (NPF), a local Iraqi Assyrian Christian force, since February of 2016. The first phase of the training consisted of basic training in Close Quarters Combat, Weapons Safety, and other basic training. The second phase includes specialized leadership training for a select group within the NPF, intensive marksmanship training, advanced marksmanship training for a select group within the NPF, and continual review of basic training.

Sons of Liberty International worked closely with the Nineveh Plain Protection Units (NPU) from December, 2014 to May, 2015, providing a range of advising services and three training programs.

Future Missions

Sons of Liberty International plans to expand operations to other countries once there is sufficient funding to do so. Our current and future missions are focused on assisting local forces in the fight against ISIS, and helping to end Christian persecution around the world by helping Christian communities learn to defend themselves against terrorists and insurgents.
